Roy Carroll‘s new industrial park in Rockingham County has landed an international tenant that will invest $96 million in a new facility and bring more than 400 jobs to the area.
Ontex Group, a Belgium born company, has chosen Carroll Industrial Development’s South Rockingham Corporate Park as the site for its first U.S. plant. The company makes disposable hygiene products, including baby and adult diapers and feminine hygiene products. It has manufacturing facilities in 16 other countries.
The South Rockingham Corporate Park sits near the intersection of I-73 and N.C. Highway 65, a short drive from Piedmont Triad International airport. Rockingham County’s Board of Commissioners approved a proposal last week to rezone the property for light industrial use.
Ontex Group plans to employ 403 people when fully operational.
“We are excited to add Ontex to our industrial base and look forward to a long-term partnership ensuring their success,” Leigh Cockram, Rockingham’s economic development director, said in a statement. “This announcement is not only a great opportunity for job expansion in our area, but also solidifies that Rockingham County, including the South Rockingham Corporate Park, is positioned well for future growth.”
